In typical Kyla fashion, she nailed her double twisting yurchenko and it was just amazing. Kyla got a 9.5 execution score which is probably the closest thing to perfect you'll see in this day and age. That was also the highest execution score of the night!
Peyton Ernst- 14.950
Peyton started out the meet pretty well on this event. I love the landing! It's unfortunate that she fell on beam because she really did have an amazing meet for her first senior nationals.
Mckayla Maroney- 15.700
Obviously a highlight in everyone's books. I don't need to explain.
Bars
Madison Kocian- 15.000
I was super impressed with Madison throughout this entire meet. After placing 2nd on this event at the Secret Classic, Madison started her first senior nationals out with a bang. Madison had one of her best bar routines ever with a 9.0 execution score! This routine put her in 1st place after the first rotation and a nice beam routine kept her in first going into the 3rd rotation. It was a bummer that she rolled her ankle on her third pass on floor, but she finished the routine like a trooper before pulling out of the meet during the last rotation. Luckily Madison is currently ranked 2nd on bars and beam, so if she competes on Saturday she could still leave Hartford with some medals.
Kyla Ross- 15.500
Easily the best bar worker in the United States, Kyla proved her case once again with a hit routine. It's not a surprise that she leads this event after day 1. Kyla had a great first day of competition!
Beam
Abby Milliet- 14.600
Although she was a little shaky and it definitely wasn't her best beam routine, Abby still did a phenomenal job and I think she has a lot of potential. Thanks to her high difficulty, Abby currently sits in 4th on this event and will hopefully improve her standing on Saturday.
Floor
Simone Biles- 15.050
Simone was such a highlight on all four events today, I was so pleased with how she did! This is the Simone we are use to seeing! Simone currently leads the all around competition with a huge score of 60.500, that is also the highest all around score of any female gymnast this year. Event wise Simone is also in pretty good shape, she currently sits in 2nd on vault, 3rd on bars, and 1st on beam and floor.
Mykayla Skinner- 14.750
The crowd really does love a difficult routine! This was the first time Mykayla actually "hit" her routine in competition and it was nice to see that the crowd enjoyed it. She also seemed to be enjoying herself which is great! Although she didn't have the best all around meet on day 1, Mykayla is currently in 3rd on floor and vault.
